Q

Explain the Cerebrum and its functions.

A

Cerebrum :

  • Largest part of the brain.
  • Two cerebral hemispheres (left and right brain)
  • white matter
  • functions = voluntary action control, higher mental function control, and reads + interprets sense organ nerve impulses.

Q

Explain the hypothalamus and its functions.

A

Hypothalamus :

  • small part of brain
  • functions = regulating blood pressure, body temp, heart beat, water balance, hunger appetite, thirst, and sleep.

Q

Explain the cerebellum and its functions.

A

Cerebellum :

  • towards bottom of brain near spinal chord
  • white matter
  • Also two hemispheres connected by worm like nerve tissue mass (vermis)
  • functions = controls voluntary actions, controls muscle tone.
  • shallow and parallel grooves

Q

Explain the medulla oblongata and its functions.

A

Medulla oblongata :

  • extension of the spinal chord.
  • grey matter - inside, white matter - outside.
  • functions = transmits nerve impulses from the spinal chord to the brain and back, controls autonomic functions.

9
Q

What are the functions of the spinal chord?

A

1- provides a pathway for nerve impulses to and from the brain.
2- contains reflex centers that initiate reflex actions.
