  2. Pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding: mother’s bodily fluids

  5. Occupational Exposure: healthcare workers

How is HIV controlled?

A
  • Protease Inhibitors: blocks viral enzyme protease, resulting in viral copies that cannot infect new cells
  • AZT (azidothymidine): inhibits reverse transcriptase
  • Combination treatment
