Presentation of HIV
-Fever
-Headache
-Sore throat
-Weight loss
-Lymphadenopathy
-Malaise
-Myalgia and arthralgia
-Diarrhoea
-Maculopapular rash
-Mouth ulcers
-Rarely meningoencephalitis
-Peripheral neuropathy
-Presenting as glandular fever type illness
-3-12 weeks after infection
Investigation of HIV
-HIV antibodies (may not be present in early infection, 4-6 weeks, ELISA)
-p24 antigen (1-4 weeks)
-Combined tests repeated, viral load.
-4 weeks in asymptomatic and again at 12.
Management of HIV
-Antiretroviral therapy x3: = x2 nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors + protease inhibitor/ non- NNRTI.
-Maraviroc, enfuvirtide= entry inhibitors.
-Tenofovir.
-Monitor HIV load (CD4 count- below 200 most at risk, and viral load)
-Immunisations
-Sexual and reproductive health.
