Hitting Flashcards
1
Q
What are the two “sensations” of hitting?
A
- A forceful pinch in the scapula (during retraction)
2. Forceful stretch of the internal rotators and across the chest (during end of cocking phase).
2
Q
Use an analogy for what an armswing should look like.
A
Should look like a whip. If you develop enough stretch and velocity, the arm should follow through to your waist very quickly.
3
Q
What are the 3 segments of the kinetic chain?
A
- Hip Rotation
- Torso Rotation
- Arm Acceleration
4
Q
What muscle(s) is(are) forcefully contracted to drive you forward during the hip rotation phase?
A
The glutes [Gluteus Maximus]. They drive the hips into rotation.
5
Q
What are the 4 most common errors with the outside hitter spiking approach?
A
- Constant Speed Approach (makes adjustment difficult)
- Approach is directed into the court rather than into the antenna (ball passes them on a perfect set)
- Small step close (player will broad jump, lose momentum, or have a large 4th step losing jump height)
- Upright trunk (May cause issues with trunk extension for the armswing)
