He was old and easily manipulated by the army
Who was Franz Von Papen?
He was a member of the centre party and when Hindenburg hired him as chancellor he thought he would be very dependent. E centre party doesn’t have the majority.
Why did Papen go to hitler in the first place?
He needed agreement from the nazis to form a right-wing non-party cabinet. The nazis had a lot of votes.
What were the conditions that hitler put forward so that he would agree to accept Von Papens deal? And did Papen agree?

The nazis got the most votes 230 seats 37% of the vote.
Why did Von Papen call another election?
After offering hitler the option of vice chancellor and hitler declined because as he wanted to become chancellor. This was unacceptable to Papen and Hindenburg. So they called a new election.
What happened to the election results of November 1932?
The nazis were still the biggest but they had lost some votes because the public thought the nazis were all talk and no action.
Why did Von Papen have to go?
Papen still wasn’t able to secure a majority therefore he had to go. He was also reluctant to rule through art.48
Even though Papen had stopped being chancellor, what had Papen suggest to Hindenburg.?
Papen wanted to control hitler by making him chancellor and making his position uncomfortable. Papen would be vice chancellor. There would only be 3/12 of hitlers cabinet nazis.
