When, where and by whom was the Treaty of Versailles signed?
It was signed on June 28, 1919 at the Palace of Versailles outside Paris. It was signed by the Allied and associated powers and Germany.
What was the treaty of Versailles?
It acted as a punishment for Germany.

- Wanted to gain security for France, keeping Germany weak + pay for generations

- Preserve the British Navy supremacy

- Wanted to have countries be open and truthful
- That European boundaries should be reorganized per the ‘self determination principle’ (elaborate)

Germany suffered more than any other nation as a result of the recall of US loans, which caused its economy to collapse. Unemployment rocketed, poverty soared and Germans became desperate

Occurred between November 8th and 9th of 1923. It was a coup d’etat. Hitler and the Nazi Party led a coalition group in an attempt to overthrow the German government. The plotters hoped to march on Berlin to launch a national revolution. They sought to establish a new government to oversee the creation of a unified Greater German Reich. In this new government, citizenship would be based on race. Despite its failure, the leaders ultimately redefined the putsch as a heroic effort to save the nation.

it was a youth organisation that promoted the ideas of fascism and the Nazi Party in general. The Hitler Youth propaganda their views on kids aged 10-18. It was based on an ideology where commitment, effectiveness and political readability, not class or education would determine how far they succeeded in the organisation.

Why did Hitler go to jail?
Him and the Nazi Party tried to overthrow the German government on November 1923. The Beer Hall Putsch was a fail and Hitler got send to jail for 5 years. Hitler used the time in prison to consider his political strategy and write the 1 volume of his book, which was an autobiography of his movement and his ideology.

What tactics did the NSDAP use?
- Posters
- Appealing to all societal classes (e.g. looking smexy in shoots for women, appealing to kids by using cute, nice posters, to the nationalists by presenting the ‘ultimate’ German citizen, to the working class by making promises of economic okayness, telling industrialists they’ll be able to keep their bank etc.)
- Mein Kampf (NSDAP bible)
- 5 speeches daily
- Would repeat popular themes (e.g. anti-semitism, anti–communism)
- Training members public speaking skills
- Modifying policies to appeal
- Would stir up violence and then ‘deal with it’ to seem in control
How did TGD help the NSDAP?
- Millions: unemployed, causing poverty, hunger etc.
- The Weimar government was weakened due to unpopular economic policies and presidential rule
