Hitler's Plans Flashcards
What were Hitler’s 3 main plans?
- Abolish the TOV
- Expand German territory
- Defeat communism
Why did Hitler want to Abolish the TOV?
- Like many Germans, he believed it was unjust and he hated it
- Treaty was a constant reminder to Germans of the defeat in WW1 + their humiliation by the Allies
- Hitler promised he would reverse it if he became leader
When H came to power, were all of the points in the TOV still in place?
No, some of the terms had already been changed e.g. Germany had stopped making reparations payments altogether.
However, most points were still in place
What were some of the terms of the TOV that Hitler hated the most?
- Germany’s armed forces to be limited
- Demilitarised Rhineland
- Germany forbidden to unite with Austria
- Sudetenland taken into the new state of Czechoslovakia
- Polish Corridor given to Poland
Why did Hitler want to expand German territory?
- The TOV had taken away territory from Germany
- H wanted to get that back
- Wanted Germany to reunite with Austria
- Wanted German minorities in other countries such as Czechoslovakia to rejoin Germany
- Wanted to carve out an empire in EE to give extra Lebensraum for Germans!
Why did H want to defeat communism?
- A German empire carved out of the SU would also help H to defeat Communism or Bolshevism
- He was anticommunist
