- Farmers had to go to the militia and land was damaged so they were less food supply
- Smaller harvest, so food supply was threatened
- increase demand of supply for the army
- politics, and religious figures told everyone to resist the enemy
- volunteers for militia stepped forward rapidly
- Canadiens saw American as a threat so they helped the British
