United Nations
an intergovernmental organization to promote international cooperation
Declaration of Human Rights
an international document that states basic rights and fundamental freedoms that all human beings are entitled to
Violation
A breach or infringement
Refugee
a person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster
Holocaust
the killing of millions of Jews and other people by the Nazis during World War Two
Concentration camp
a type of prison where large numbers of people who are not soldiers are kept during a war and are usually forced to live in very bad conditions
Secretary General
a title given to the principal administrator of some organizations, most notably the United Nations.
Security Council
An important division of the United Nations that contains five permanent members — the United States, Britain, China, France, and Russia — and ten rotating members. It is often called into session to respond quickly to international crises. Its main purpose is to prevent war by settling disputes between nations.
General Assembly
one of the six principal organs of the United Nations and the only one in which all member nations have equal representation.
scapegoat
A person or group that is made to bear blame for others.
persecuted
hostility and ill-treatment, especially because of their race or political or religious beliefs.
anti-semitic
prejudice against, hatred of, or discrimination against Jews as a national, ethnic, religious or racial group.
Israel
a country that is heavily populated by the Jewish people
Palestine
a historic region that was established into Jewish communities
West Bank
an Israeli settlement
