Bill of Rights
Amendments to the US Constitution that protected citizens basic rights.
Delegates
A representative.
Due Process
A citizens right to fair treatment through the judicial system.
Judicial review
The power of the courts to decide whether actions are lawful.
Ordinance
A law.
Citizenship
Membership in a society that comes with rights and duties.
Constitutional republic
Government in which representatives are chosen by the people whose power is limited by a constitution.
Checks and balances
System in which the limits are placed on the branches of government, so no one branch becomes too powerful.
Federal system
Government where power is shared between a national centralized government and the smaller state government.
Compromise
An agreement between opposing parties.
Statehood
The status of being recognized as an independent state in the USA.
Veto
To refuse to approve something.
Federalists
People who Supported the passage of the US Constitution.
Amendment
A change or improvement (typically to the US Constitution.)
Political party
A group of people who have similar beliefs about government.
