Alice Paul helped pass the 19th Amendment in 1920 by suffering through marches and in prison the amendment gave women the right to vote

President of the US during World War 1- he said the US will not be involved in the War and present the US as a neutral country - the US sided with the British
Unrestricted Submarine Warfare
Germans declare warfare in the ocean- they say any allie ship going to the British water will be sunk without warnings
Lusitania
A luxury British passenger ship sailing from NY to England - they placed warnings in each room reminding the guests about the waters being a danger zone - germans saw the ship and thought the British were smuggling weapons on the ship - once the ship crossed paths with the german submarine without warning a torpedo a direct hit to the ship it slowly sinks and the second explosion is the fire reaching the weapons the german then promise not to do it again - but after the many times the german sunk the US ships the US almost declare war on germans

He used the fact that he kept the US out of the war to win and won by one state - a month after the US went into war
What was the Zimmerman Telegram?
sent a telegram to a German diplomat in Mexico written in code that only Germans were supposed to know - British spies get the document and decode it it says “Hey Mexico if you attack the US and invade the US when the war is over, you will get all you land back the US took” the British immediately sent it to Washington DC - the telegram was misunderstood because it was worded it incorrectly

Famous scandal Harding is remembered for -government oil field in Wyoming that the US Navy controlled - department of Interior leases out the government-owned oil fields to a wealthy private guy - the secretary was bribed to let him have control- secretary is arrested and put on trial convicted and served time
Great Depression
worst economic crisis - the unemployment rate was 27% - 67% of American work force was not being used in the middle of the great depression. Hoover did nothing to stop he did not think it was his job to step in - it got the worse cause of hoover -
Franklin Roosevelt
won the presidential election with 90% - had plans to fight the depression - did more for the common man
New Deal
Roosevelt Plan for relief, recovery and reform- government agencies that would work to lessen the depression

Fireside Chats, Civilian Conservation Corps, Works preogress administration, Tennessee Valley authority
NYE Committee
said the US getting involved in world war 1 was a mistake - the US got involved not to keep the world safe, nor because of the germans or Zimmerman. They said the US joined because the US was greedy because before they joined, they loaned the French British billions, and they needed them to win to get money back
