History Term 1 landscapes and landforms Flashcards
What is Biophysical landsapes?
Theses landscapes unaffected by humans meaning it is not man made. The biophysical environment is made up of four parts: the atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere and biosphere.
what are the four types of elements of landscapes?
natural elements, living elements, human elements and changeable elements
In order, what is the lithosphere cycle?
erosion, deposition, weatheing, tectonic activity = lithosphere cycle
What is deposition?
When little bits of sand and rock travel and add to make landforms. Basically transferring little bits of sand and rock to another mountain or landscape.
What is weathering?
The breaking down of rock by tempreture, wind and water and then deposition starts.
What are the four main types of erosion
gravity, water, wind and glaciers
What is erosion?
its similar to weathering, taking away from the earths surface by water, wind or ice
( deposition ) What is it called when two plates collide and head towards eachother?
converging plate boundaries
( deposition ) What is it called when two plates seperate and create a new crust?
Divergent plate boundaries
What is Mechanical weathering?
the process of big rocks breking into little rocks. Some examples are frost, ice, plants roots, running water and hreat from the sun
What is chemical weathering?
causing the surface to change colour or shape things like carbone dioxide, oxygen and acids cause this
What are the two types of weathering called?
mechanical weathering and chemical weathering
In order, what are the layers of the earth called?
inner core, outer core, mantle and crust
What is it called when two plates horizontally past eachother
Transform fault
What are the three types of mountains called?
block mountains, volcanic mountains and Fold mountains
