Time where the wealthy were extremely wealthy (1879-1900)

Assassinated by a man angry because he didn’t give him a government job.

President after Garfield; eventually supported the civil service act

People would have to take a test to get government job.
Capitalism
a systej in which private bussinesses, farms, and factories compete with one another to make profit.
Muckraker
A writer who brings attention to corruption
Trust
A giant corporation, or a group or companies
What problems did the progressives want to fix?
Regulate industry, improve working conditions, health, and eduction.
