One, holy, catholic, and apostolic
What was the Pentecost?
the birthday of the Church; the apostles were scared to go preach, but 50 days after Jesus’ death, the Holy Spirit descended upon them and they went out and preached
Define the meaning of “one”
the Church is one church; everyone is united
Define “holy”
to be united with God, to be spiritually perfect, and to be free from all sin
Define Catholic
“universal” or “comprehensive”
How is the Church Catholic?
it is founded on God’s revelation through Jesus Christ
What does it mean that the Church is “apostolic”
it was founded on the apostles
What is the Holy Trinity?
three holy beings united in one godhead that share the same essence
What do we celebrate on Palm Sunday?
The day that Jesus was welcomed into Jerusalem with palms at his feet
What do we celebrate on Holy Thursday?
The Last Supper
What do we celebrate on Holy Friday?
The Day that Jesus was crucified
What do we celebrate on Easter Sunday?
The day Jesus rose from the dead and saved us from all sin
Who was at the Council of Jerusalem?
It was between the Pillars of the Church led by St. James and St. Paul (of Tarsus)
What was the question being discussed at the Council of Jerusalem?
It was about if new Christians needed to conform to old Jewish laws first to become a Christian. (If people needed to be Jewish before becoming a Christian)
What was the outcome of the Council of Jerusalem?
They concluded that you did not have to become Jewish before you were a Christian and that Christianity was its own religion
Who was at the Council of Nicea?
It was called by Constantine and it was between Arius and Alexander
What was being discussed at the Council of Nicea?
Arius said that God was a creature and not fully God; Alexander said that Jesus and God were of the same substance
What was the outcome of the Council of Nicea?
Jesus and God are of the same substance; they have existed throughout all time
