Dr. William H. Welch Established a laboratory at the Bellevue hospital medical college. He gave the first lab course in pathology offered in an American Medical School.
1878
Largest and best equipped chemical
laboratory related to medicine was opened in
University of Michigan with Dr. Silas
Douglas who started first lab instructions.
1884
Dr. Welch became the first professor of
pathology at John Hopkins University.
1885
Established a laboratory at the Bellevue
hospital medical college. He gave the first
lab course in pathology offered in an
American Medical School.

Dr. James C Todd wrote the book: Manual
of Clinical Diagnosis
The book was edited by Dr. John Bernard
Henry and it was named: Clinical Diagnosis
and Management by Laboratory Methods.
The book became the standard reference for
laboratories.
1908
State of legislature of Pennsylvania enacted
a law requiring all hospital and institutions
to have an adequate lab and to employ a fulltime laboratory technicians.
1915
