Why is 50% alcohol considered 100 Degrees Proof?
In the early 1700s, the alcohol content of distilled beverages was determined by using gunpowder. Alcohol burned steadily with the blue flame was considered 100degrees “proof” and equaled 57.15% ethanol.
What is Scotch Whiskey?
Whiskey distilled in Scotland from barley and maybe other grains and matured in casks for at least three years.
What is single malt scotch?
scotch from a single distillery using pot stills and only malted barley.
What is blended malt scotch?
scotch which is a blend of more than one single malt scotch. The age declared is the age of the youngest whiskey in the blend.
What is single grain scotch?
Scotch from a single distillery using barley and other grains.
What is blended scotch?
Scotch which is a blend of one or more malt whiskies with one or more grain whiskies.
What is Irish Whiskey?
Whiskey distilled in Ireland from barley and maybe other grains and matured in casks for at least three years.

What is Tennessee Whiskey?
Whiskey distilled from at least 51% corn and aged in charred, new oak barrels. The fresh distillate is filtered through charcoal prior to aging in the casks.
