What is a primary source?
Provides direct or first hand evidence about an event, object, person or work of art.
What is a secondary source?
Created by someone who did not experience the event /historical period first hand.
What features of a source are important?
Nature - what type of source (book, diary, artefact etc)
Origin - who wrote or made it
Purpose - why did they create it?
Accuracy - from what I know, how true is it?
What is the difference between long-term and short-term causes?
Long-term causes existed for a long time before the event ( years, decades or centuries before the event).
Short-term causes occurred shortly before the event (a few hours, days work weeks before the event).
What terms describe key periods of time
Decade - ten years e.g. sixties, seventies
Century - hundred years e.g. 1600s, 20th century
Which event distinguishes year 0?
Birth of Jesus
How are the years before and after year 0 known?
BC - before christ (years before Jesus was born)
AD - anno domini (advancing age) years after Jesus was born.
