history - john burnside Flashcards
kite imagery
the kite could represent how far away the event is to the speaker - detached.
kite could represent the freedom that the philosophical questions permit to the speaker. they can escape being ‘fixed and anchored to the shore’
structure
uncontrolled and chaotic tone.
disjointed stanza lengths + excessive enjambment between lines to emulate feeling of control slipping away from speaker
The structure of the poem then shifts, the stanzas becoming intermittently more regular as observational detail turns to thought and an attempt to make some kind of sense out of what is happening in the world.
contrasts
argument = contrasts used represent the speakers uncertainty as they navigate this change.
physical v virtual
present v past
