Hieroglyphics, things dug from that time, fossils, statues, flags, carvings and paintings.

What did Mandela do in his childhood?
He worked as a herd boy
Attended local mission school
Played with friends, swam in streams, built toys from mud, ate a meal cooked over open fire and slept in a mud hat with thatch.
What did he do after school?
He went to study law at Wits in Johannesburg. He became a member of the African National Congress (ANC) fighting against apartheid.
What did he do as an attorney?
He tried to help people who were arrested for breaking apartheid laws.
During apartheid black people had to carry a passbook. If they didn’t carry it, they would be arrested.
What does Rolihlahla mean?
Stirring up trouble.
What stirring did he do?
He organized protests against apartheid government and was arrested many times
When and where did he go to jail?
Robben Island in 1964. The government had banned the ANC, which gave them the power to arrest Mandela, govan mbeki and Walter sisulu.
What did prisoners do?
They had to work hard in the quarry, digging limestone. Only allowed one visitor and one letter every six months.
What does Apartheid mean?
A system for keeping white people and non-white people separate in South Africa. it lasted from 1952 the early 1990s
What does discrimination mean?
Treating someone unfairly because of their religion, race or gender.
What does democracy mean?
A system of government where all the people choose their leader by voting.
