What are you looking for with ‘Look”?
General inspection - pain/distress, abnormal posture/use of mobility, asymmetry
Which structures should you assess for swelling?
Bone, joint, tendons and bursae
Whats the difference between subluxation and dislocation?
Subluxation is only partial dislocation
When assessing for arthritis, what could you look for in the muscles and skin?
Muscle wasting in the muscle, joint, surrounding tissues or nerves
Skin changes like rash, erythema and scars
What should you ‘feel’ for when examining for arthritis?
Temperature of joint, tenderness (local/general), swelling
What should you consider when assessing swelling?
Whether it’s bone or soft tissue
What are the two types of movement to do in a general exam?
Passive - by examiner
Active - by patient
When considering Gout, what are three things you should pay extra attention to in a history, relating to prompts of an attack?
Dehydration, protein in the diet and alcohol intake
