1764, they were not represented and saying their rights have been violated by the British. The British do not listen.
‘No taxation without Representation’
Americans do not feel like they are being properly represented in court. American MPs are from England no relationship with Americans.
Currency Act
1764, override American acts and anyone who infringes on it finned 10 thousand pound, trialed with no jury.
Responce to Stamp Act
Massachusetts invite colonies to come together and form a response to the king.
Sons of Liberty
1765 Radical group, target stamp act members in Boston. They hang an effigy of Oliver from the ‘Liberty Tree’
The Townshend Act
176, tax imports from Britain, glass, silk, paper, paint and tea.

The Boston Massacre
1770, 3 killed, 8 injured by the English standing army. Worsens tension colonist felt subordinate.
‘Non Importation Association’
Boycott British goods, form groups to make this easier.
Boston Tea party
1773, then Boston Port closed until they paid 10 thousand pound for the tea dumped (1774 in Intolerable Acts).
Administration of Justice Act
1774, American officials would be trialed in England.
Quartering Act
Solders can take up residents in any vacant building in America.
The Continental Congress
Met Oct of 1774, 55 men from colonies, declare the intolerable acts unconstitutional.
Second Continental Congress
Met 75 April, fight the British, America wins. British loose 273 America looses 95.

1775 July, ‘final stab at reconciliation’ King declares it is a smoke screen as they are preparing for war.
Prohibitory Act
1775, they are no longer protected by the English, could seize their ships.

John Adams called it the ‘Act of Independency’ stating “It is a complete dismemberment of the British Empire.” 1776.

Thomas Paine, 1776. That the king is a tyrant and that independency is the only way forward. “The birthday of a new world is at hand”
