Name and explain the five reasons why the rebellions of 1837 rebelled against the governments of upper and lower Canada
- democratic government
An Undemocratic government is when people choose there representatives and they have power. In the Canada’s was in
undemocratic government which meant that people choose representatives, however they had little power. This happened in the Canada’s because the executive council and the legislative council could rule out their bills. - The government élites
In the Canada’s political élites had all the power. In lower Canada they were called chatêau clique and in upper Canada they they where called family compact. Many lawyers and few rich merchants worked hard to keep the power to then selves. - The economic decline
B.N.A supported lots of agricultural products to Europe. Incomes to B.N.A began to fall and farmers began to go bankrupt but the government did not do much about it. - The decline of the serginal system
In lower Canada early 1800s the British merchants lived very well. The seigneurs began to envy them. The seigneurs decide to increase their incomes( raising taxes and rent ) by doing this they changed their habitants. The constitutional act of 1791 and the Quebec act 1774 supported this.
5.Transportation
In the early 1800s, in upper Canada merchants were expanding trade which means that companies had to build many canals to improve shipping. At this time lower Canada an upper Canada were not in harmony. Papineau ( lower Canada ) sent Russell ( British ) ninety two resolutions in 1834 it took Russell ( British ) until 1837 to respond and all of his answers to Papineau ( lower Canada ) lead to the anwser NO, however the Canadian legislative assembly did pass Papineau’s (lower Canada) minty two resolutions.
