It is used to loosen soil.

Dates objects by depth in the ground.

A body that was preserved.
Test trench.
Archaeologists take a sample of the ground to see if there is any point in digging on this site.
Brush.
Archaeologists use a brush to get off any dirt as it might be delicate.
Carbon dating.
Every living object contains carbon 14. When it dies the amount of carbon 14 decrease. It is used to date objects.
Aerial.
A photo taken from up in the sky.
Sieve.
Used to make sure nothing small is in the soil.
Dendochronology.
Dating a wooden object by the number of rings.
Dig.
When you make a hole in the ground.
Hoard.
When a large amount of gold or sliver are found together. There were buired for sake keeping and their owners didn’t come back for them.
