- War and conquest ( against the French , Spanish , Indians and native Americans)
- Building trading bases (Close to the coast) and trade

Similarities:
1.They Fought wars to win against other countries
2. They used trading to make money
3. Like the Spanish they got an Empire in Another continent

State the 3 stages of the triangular trade. And explain what each one carried.
Stage 1: Britain to Afrika - British made industrial goods such as clothes , metals , guns and alcohol. These goods were trade for Africans
Stage 2: Afrika to Amerika - Africans are Kidnapped and put in dungeons in chains. They become slaves and get sent across the Atlantic to Amerika and west indies
Stage 3: West indies to Britain - Plantation goods (produced by slave) such as sugar , cotton and tobacco are exported to Britai. There , they are converted ( turned to industrial goods) and sold at a high price
Why did people migrate and settle in Amerika?
Manny settled there hoping to grow wealthy from Farming and trade. Others migrated to Amerika so that they had the freedom to follow their religion in their own way instead of in the way the government at home ordered.

How did Ordinary People benefit from Slavery?
Ordinary People for whom the slave trade provided many jobs back in Britain: back in Liverpool’s sailors were involved in the slave trade; there were the jobs in factories making things to sell to Africa or the plantations. Slave Labor made sugar cheaper for people living in Britain
Why was Clarkson’s challenges so difficult?
Because Nearly everyone in Britain, from farm workers to bishops , accepted slavery as completely normal. West Indies were the most valuable colonies of Britain
What are some racist arguments defending the slave trade?
Africans are less skilled that Europeans, proving that white people are superior , so they have a right to do as they wish with black people.
What are some economic arguments defending the slave trade?
The slave trade make lots of money for Britain. It has to continue, Africa is undeveloped - no other type of trade is possible

Why did the captain of the slave ship Zong throw 130 slaves overboard when they were sick?
The Ship had left Afrika in September. By November 60 slaves had died and many were seriously ill. Collingwood (Ship Captain) thought that if they threw sick slaves overboard the owners would be able to claim money back from the insurance company.
