What is chronology?

Study of time and dates.
Organising history so that the earliest things come first and later ones come at the end.
What is a time-line?
Shows the order things happen against a scale.
What is an anachronism?
An anachronism is when something from one time period is placed in another time period.
What does BC mean?
BC stands for Before Christ.
BC: Before Christ
Don’t forget BC counts backwards!
What does AD mean?
AD stands for Anno Domini
(The year of our Lord).
AD: Anno Domini
What years cover the 1st century?
The years in the 1st century range from 1AD to 99AD.
1st century: 1 - 99AD
What years cover the 20th century?
The years that cover the 20th century range from 1900AD to 1999AD.
20th century: 1900 - 1999AD
What years cover the 1st century BC?
The years in the 1st century BC range from 1BC to 99BC.
1st century BC: 1BC - 99BC
What years cover 3rd century BC?
The years in the 3rd century BC range from 200BC to 299 BC.
3rd century BC: 200BC - 299 BC
If you had two newspapers from the same day, one from London and the other from Mecca, why would they have different dates?
They use different calendars.
What is bias?
Putting across an unfair or one sided opinion.
Why can bias be useful?
It helps us learn about people’s opinions and beliefs.
What is a primary source?
Something from the time period being studied.
What is a secondary source?
Sources that do not come from the time period being studied e.g. books written later.
