Biggest hippie counterculture event. It was a festival for people to forget about war and go into music and spread a message of unity and peace.

That racial segregation of children in public schools was unconstitutional.
What was Silent Spring?
It introduced critical new ideas into the public mind. That spraying chemicals to control insect populations can also kill birds that feed on dead or dying insects. These chemicals travel not only through the environment but through food chains.
What was the legacy of the Great Society?
To end poverty and racism

Because she purposely sat in the front of the bus that was for “whites only” when she shouldn’t have been sitting there

Because they were black and the governor sent the national guard to prevent them from entering the school.

Traveled in busses though segregated South
What happened at the March on Washington?
MLK had his “I have a Dream” speech, and 250,000 people came to D.C. to persuade to pass the Civil Rights Bill
Montgomery Bus Boycott
Buses were segregated. Rosa Parks was arrested for sitting in the front of a bus which was for “whites only”
Freedom Riders
SNCC-filled busses to travel through the segregated South leading to slashed tires. bombs in the busses and riders beat
Baptist Church Bombing
The Civil Rights Bill was passed, many people weren’t happy so they bombed a baptist church killing 4 girls
Little Rock Nine
9 A black students were chosen to go to Central High, a white school, only 1 out of the nine graduated
March on Washington
250,000 people came to D.C. to persuade in passing the Civil Rights Bill, MLK gave his “I have a Dream” speech
Sit-Ins
A group of black people would come into an only whites diner, and sit there until they were served. Many were kicked out or arrested but when that happened, a new group of black people would come in and replace them

Congress gave the President the authority to use force during war
Why was fighting in Vietnam supposed to be easy?
Because we’ve already fought communists way much stronger than Vietnam and we had superior soldiers and weapons
What was Agent Orange?
It was a herbicide to clear vegetation. It caused many people to have cancer and many other diseases
Why did Johnson want to send troops to Vietnam?
Because of the assignation of Kennedy, he didn’t want to make it seem as if America was soft on communism
How did television change people’s attitudes toward Vietnam?
This was the first televised war, showing all the dead American soldiers and the bad side of war. People started to hate the war and protested why we have to help Vietnam
