Absolute Monarch
A monarch who is not bound by the rules of a CONSTITUTION, so has complete power
Ancien Regime
Name given to the period before the revolution in France and to the government at this time.
The bastille
A prison which Parisians regarded as a symbol of the kings tyrannical Government

14th July 1789- start of the French Revolution and still celebrated by the french today
Cashier
Pamphlet drawn up by the french village or town to list people’s grievances
Constitution
A document laying down downs within which a monarch and government must operate
Estate
One of three ranks of French people before the Revolution (Clergy, Nobility and conman people).
Estates General
Was an assembly of representatives of the three estates
Feudal System
System in France and England, where a peasant held land in return for services and taxes ( feudal dues) paid to the landowner

This allows the king to put someone in prison without trial.

The French king (1774-1791) executed 21st January 1793
Marie Antoinette
Louis 16 extravagant wife who was executed on 16 October 1793.

Form of government without the monarch

Ordinary people in France. The name is given to those who became revolutionaries
