Mesopotamia
The land between Tigris and Euphrates river in the fertile crescent and was the location of the first civilization.
Hammurabi
Babylonian King during Sumerian times. Most famous for writing code of Hammurabi.
Hieroglyphics
Egyptian writing system using pictures.
Phoenicians
A mesopotamian civilization who were located above Judea. They were big on trade and made ships, colonized and created their own alphabet.
Israelites
a religious group of people located in Judea who were monotheistic.
Monotheism
The belief in one god.
Polytheism
The belief in many gods.
Caste System
Social classification system in India used by Hindu belief. There were 5 levels in the system and each had different religious responsibilities. It went from top to bottom in level of importance: 1. Priests. 2. Warriors. 3. Commoners. 4. Peasants. 5. Untouchables (not even considered people.
Hinduism
a religion where they believed in one ultimate god called Brahman and they believed in dharma, karma, reincarnation, and the caste system.
daoism
Chinese Way of life. Believed that one should follow the way of the universe
Buddhism
Sidhartha Gautama rejected the caste system and taught that attachment to physical desires leads to pain.They also believed in nirvana (ultimate level of wisdom).
Confucius
5 constant relationships- duty, moral way, improve yourself.
Daoism
Laozi, the dao=let things occur in nature- be true to yourself, go with the flow.
Homer
Greatest Greek poet whose stories taught duty, courage, and responsibility.
Sparta
Greek City-State whose main focus was war. They did not focus much on academic education, and trained their children from young ages to become warriors.
