Describe the Tennis Court Oath
When the representatives of the Third Estate formed their own National Assembly, they discovered that they were locked out of the meeting hall at Versailles.
So, they occupied an old tennis court and took a “Tennis Court Oath”, which promised that they would never separate until a constitution has been made that gives them more freedom, rights and power.

What was the significance of the National Assembly?
The National Assembly was very significant as it was a new name for the ‘Estates-General’ and it was created by the third estate as they were frustrated by their lack of power in the ‘Estates-General’ where the Clergy and Nobels dominated it.
Why did working women march to Versailles?
This was the day where The working women wanted to talk to Marie Antoinette to get her to come to Paris and see how awful life was, but as the women were walking to Versailles, 1000 people joined them on the way. This meant when the French got to Versailles, there were a lot of people and a lot of shouting for fairness.
What were some main causes in the French Revolution
Some main reasons for the French Revolution was money. Marie Antoinette had spent so much money that there was literally nothing left. King Louis XVI kept trying to raise taxes to afford all of their expenses. Another reason there was no money left was that they were supporting America in the American War of Independence. They gave money to America but forgot about the people of France.
This caused riots and anger with the people as they were starving.
Who is Marie Antoinette?
Marie Antoinette was the wife of King Louis XVI who gave birth to 4 children. Her oldest son survived and he became the heir. She was originally Austrian but got an arranged marriage to Louis dauphine at the age of 14. She was the Archduchess of Austria. She was the last Queen of France before the revolution.
Who is King Louis XVI?
King Louis XVI was the Dauphin of France who was married to Marie Antoinette the Daphinne of France. He was the last King of France before the fall of the monarchy.

What were the main principles in the Declaration of the Rights of Man?
It was formed in August, 1789. It outlined the principles for a democratic government and laid the outlines for a democracy for France. It was a fundamental document which main ideas were around liberate, fraternite and egalité.
What is the Estates-General?
The Estates-General was a government assembly created in the Middle Ages to address the people’s issues, but it was biased and had not met since 1614 due to the kings’ arrogance, which contributed to the French Revolution. The Third Estate used grievance lists to voice their complaints to the nobility about what was not working in society.
Why were people hungry and on the streets of France?
There was a lot of riots going on in the city of Paris as there was no food. Marie Antoinette has spent all of the countries money and there was none left for the people. This was a major contributor to the starting of the French Revolution.

How is the National Assembly related to the Tennis Court Oath?
The National Assembly was formed by the Third Estate to represent the third estate and express their problems. When they were locked out of the hall, they decided to occupy a tennis court which was where the tennis court oath took place where they vowed never to separate until a constitution was made.
