1400-1650’s: optimism around man’s potential; man, not God, became the measure of all things

1500’s : religious unity of Europe broken and undending schisms resulted
Scientific Revolution
1600’s: cosmos as spiritual replaced with universe as machine;
Enlightenment
1700’s: a philosophical framework for living and governing absent from religious reference
Industrial Revolution
1800’s: agrarian way of life ended taking rural families into cities. Relations among people became defined by money instead of bonds of family and friendship. Romanticism rebelled against this focusing on passion and individualism; marxism and atheism also thrived in this vacuum.
Sexual Revolution
20th Century: the destruction of 2 world wars and the great depression damaged faith god’s of reason and progress as well as the Christian God. In place of reason, progress and God came the emphasis of fulfilling one’s own desires.
Theosis and semipelagianism
Deification - the transformative process by which we are made like Christ
In semipelagian thought, a distinction is made between the beginning of faith and the increase of faith. It’s about the role of free will in sanctification.

Nominalism
1300’s - no universals anymore, human reason is the center of everything. The world is no longer metaphysical (above physical)
