Why were the trade problems important to take notice of when talking about the confederation
The colonies had trade agreement (corn laws) with Britain and US (reciprocity) Once these ended the colonies needed to trade with each other
Why were the Changing British Attitudes important to take notice of when talking about the confederation?
-A group of people in Britain (the Little Englanders) against Britain money begin sent to the colonies
-The colonies should pay for there own defense and navy instead of England paying for them
-The british colonies were to much to maintain so when Canada approched them asking for independance british gave it to them and stop sending money to the colonies
Why were the Fenian Raids when talking about the confederation
The Fenian were a secret society of Irish patriots who had emigrated from Ireland to the United States. Some members of this movement tried to take Canadian territory by force, so they could exchange it with Britain for Irish independence.
The Fenian Raids shone much needed light on a lack of training and national security for Canadians.
American Threat when talking about the confederation
It acted as a catalyst to propel the movement to Confederation forward in British North America. Fear of a powerful victorious United States compelled many to seek union of the British provinces
-the US believe in manifest destiny meaning that American believe they had the right to take over Canada
