history Flashcards
The Triangular trade comprised 3 voyages, what were they?
the Outward Passage, the Middle passage and the Home passage
What was the outward passage
Goods taken from Europe to Africa to trade for People. They took guns, metal pots and cloth and tools
The Middle Passage
where slaves crossed the Atlantic in ‘tight pack’ and had little time above deck
The homeward passage
was when the Slave Ships took products made by Slaves back to Europe to be sold. This included cotton, sugar and tobacco.
What are 6 conditions slaves faced in slave factories
Slaves could spend up to 3 months in the slave factories. Up to 1,000 male and 500 female slaves were crammed together. Poorly ventilated dungeons. Very little light in the dungeons. Without water or sanitation, human waste was all over the floor. Many died from tropical diseases such as malaria or yellow fever.
