2 TYPES OF HISTORICAL SOURCES
PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SOURCES
Are those records in the past, at or close to the time under
study, that have survived into the present. Ultimately, primary documents are our sole sources or evidences about the past.
PRIMARY SOURCES
Sources that are considered as the culmination of the
studies, readings, and interpretation of various primary sources. Authors of these sources do not experience the event under study
SECONDARY SOURCES
The writing of history based on the critical examination of
sources, the selection of particulars from the authentic
material and sources (methodology), and the synthesis of
particulars into a narrative that will stand the test of
critical methods.

Understanding the context that influences the content of the document
CONTEXTUALIZATION
Establish what is probable by
comparing/counter checking other sources
CORROBORATION
Identify the author’s claim about the
event
