Histology Lecture 2 Flashcards
What are the 4 types of tissue
- Connective
- Nervous
- Muscular
- Epithelial
What does the Mesothelium line
Internal body cavities (Plural, Pericardial, and Peritoneal
What does the endothelium line?
The cardio vascular system (lining of the heart, blood vessels, and lymph ducts)
What does the epithelium line?
External surfaces of the body (skin and lumen) Also includes secretory cells that release products into the internal and external environment.
Describe initiate movement ( concentric contractions).
Muscle contraction that causes the muscle to shorten (ie a bicep curl) through the contraction.
Describe resist movement (eccentric contraction).
A type of muscle that causes the muscle to lengthen through the contraction (ie the movement of the tricep during a bicep curl)
Describe isomeric muscle contractions.
A type of muscle contraction that maintains the length of a muscle through the contraction. This is typically done while maintaining position against resistive forces (ie gravity)
How many nuclei does striated (skeletal) muscle have?
Many nuclei located peripherally to the longitudinal center of the cell.
How many nuclei does cardiac muscle have?
Mono or sometimes bi nucleated with nuclei located centrally to the longitudinal center of the cells
How many nuclei does smoth muscle have?
Single nucleus located centrally to the longitudinal axis of the cell.
What type of signal is carried by motor nerves?
Efferent signal
What type of signal is carried by sensory nerves?
Afferent signal
What does the somatic nervous system inervate?
Body wall
What does the Visceral nervous system inervate?
Organs, glands, etc.
