Histology and Pathology of Loose and Dense Connective Tissues Flashcards
What are the 3 components of connective tissues?
cells
ECM
- ground substance
- fibres
List the type of cells found in connective tissue
fibroblasts adipocytes macrophages mast cells plasma cells leukocytes
What are the 3 main types of connective tissue? Where are they found? What is their composition?
Loose: more ground substance than collagen, surrounds small blood vessels and areas adjacent to epithelia
Dense Irregular: randomly distributed Type 1 collagen, some elastic fibres, resistant to tearing
Dense Regular: parallel collagen bundles, strength with little stretch, found in tendons and ligaments
What is reticular tissue?
Type II collagen, abundant in lymphoid organs
What is mucoid tissue?
gel like connective tissue resembling mesenchyme, seen around blood vessels in the umbilical cord
The extracellular matrix is the predominant feature in tissues specalised for ………….. ……………. e.g.
The cells are the predominant feature in tissues specialised for ………. or ………….. …………. e.g.
mechanical function e.g. ligaments, tendon and bone
protection or metabolic maintenance e.g. blood, adipocytes
