Histology Flashcards
what type of epithelium comprises the tunica intima of blood vessels?
simple squamous
what type of connective tissue is the tunica adventitia of the blood vessels?
fibrous connective tissue
what are the differences between elastic and muscular arteries?
elastic arteries has a very thick tunica intima.
they have elastic fibres in their tunica media.
muscular arteries have a prominent IEL in the tunica intima and a OEL just between tunica media and adventitia.
how would you identify an arteriole?
they have no tunica adventitia or IEL
where do the valves within veins come from?
tunica intima
what cells do sinusoids contain and in what layer?
phagocytes in the tunica intima
what are sinusoids?
large diameter discontinuous capillaries
what type of cells does capillaries contain under their BM for contractile properties?
pericytes
histologically, what is the difference between superficial and deep veins?
deep veins are thin walled whereas superficial are more thick walled
the lumne of lymph capillaries are contained at a positive or negative hydrostatic pressure?
-ve
what is the name for the vessels which supply the blood vessel and lymph vessels?
vasa vasorum
