Histology Flashcards
Tight Junctions
Calls are basically seen together using proteins leaving little to no space between them. These can be found in most epithelial tissues
Desmosomes or adhesive junctions
Proteins between the calls connect with filaments inside of them acting much like Velcro. Cells are still bound together tightly but have more flexibility as a layer. These can be found in the epidermis (the outer layer of skin) and the lining of the uterus.
Gap junctions
Cells are connected by proteins that form channels, allowing the two neighboring cells to directly share cytoplasm. This junction enables the cells to pass on small molecules without investing energy. These can be found in most tissues of the body but are especially important in cardiac muscle.
