Histo Digestive System Flashcards
consists of the oral cavity, the pharynx, the alimentary tract (canal), and the anal canal
digestive system
secrete digestive enzymes or mucus to facilitate the digestion and transport of digested food
Intrinsic and extrinsic glands
lie within the mucosa or submucosa of their organ of origin.
intrinsic glands
communicate with their organ of origin through ducts
Extrinsic glands
extrinsic digestive glands are the major salivary glands including?
Parotid
Sublingual and submandibular (submaxillary) glands;
Pancreas;
Liver.
Organs of the digestive tract typically have 4 concentric coats outward from the lumen.
(1) Mucosa (mucous membrane),
(2) Submucosa
(3) Muscularis (muscularis extema)
(4) Ventitia or serosa.
Mucosa has three components:
(a) the epithelium and its underlying basement membrane
(b) a thin underlying layer of loose, cellular connective tissue, the lamina propria
(c) a relatively thin Layer of smooth muscle called the muscularis mucosae.
The latter may consist of both circular and longitudinally arranged layers
Mucosa
is composed of a dense layer, irregularly arranged connective tissue that contains nervous tissue (the submucosal plexus of Meissner) as well as blood vessels.
submucosa
consists of at least 2 layers of smooth muscle, an inner circular and ter longitudinal layer.
muscularis externa
consists of a thin layer of loose connective tissue
Adventitia
Digestive system is covered by
peritoneum
The adventitial layer is called the?
Serosa
accessory organs of the digestive glands:
(a) salivary glands
(b) liver
(c) pancreas
alimentary canal, also called ?
gastrointestinal tract
