Mexican American History
Mexico included state of Texas, and parts of Midwest. Mexican war was ended in 1848 by the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo which made hispanic ppl from California to New Mexico Americans - but in strictly political sense.
They were not immigrants, nor minority groups and had unique proximity to their homeland. Primarily catholic religion rather than anglo saxon christianity.

Corrido - mexican ballad.
Coming of age stories often used by ethnic authors as they show marginalisation/struggle of double consciousness/assimilation
