Hip Special Test Flashcards
Purpose of test is used to assess rectus femoris spasticity or tightness.
Pt. Positioned in prone
The test is positive when the heel cannot touch the buttocks
Elys Test “Contracture/Tightness”
The test evaluates a tight, contracted or inflamed Tensor Fasciae Latae (TFL) and Iliotibial band (ITB).
Pt. positioned side-lying with lower leg flexed at the hip and knee. Therapist moves the test leg into extension and abduction and then slowly lower the test leg.
Positive test is inability of test leg to adduct and touch the table.
Obers Test “Contracture/Tightness”
In general it is used to check for hip flexion contractures.
The patient is asked to lie supine. The examiner checks for lordosis which is a predictor of a tight hip flexor. The examiner then flexes one hip bringing the knee to the chest and asks the patient to hold the knee to help stabilize the pelvis and flatten out the lumbar region. If the leg that is being tested (the leg on the table) does not have a hip flexion contraction it will remain on the testing table. If a contracture is present the leg will raise off of the table
