Hip Joint and Pelvic Girdle Flashcards
What is the anterior pelvic tilt (APT)?
Front of the pelvis rotates forward and the back of the pelvis rises.
What is the posterior pelvic tilt (PPT)?
Pelvis tilts backwards causing the lower back to flatten and the buttocks to appear tucked under.
What does acetabulum mean?
Small bowl.
Cup shaped socket in the hip bone that forms the hip joint with the head of the femur.
What is the hip joint?
The head of the femur connecting with
the acetabulum of the pelvic girdle.
The point of articulation between the head of the femur and the acetabulum of the pelvis girdle.
What is the pelvic girdle?
The right and left pelvic bones joined to sacrum.
What type of joint is the hip?
Ball and socket.
What are the 3 bones of the pelvis?
Ilium, Ischium, and Pubis.
What type of bones are in the pelvic girdle?
Flat bones: Ilium and Ischium
Irregular: Pubis
Amphiarthrodial and Synchrondosis
Comparing the hip and GH joint, which has greater mobility and stability?
Hip - stability
GH joint - mobility
What is “Q angle”?
Tibial tuberosity to center of patella.
Establishes vertical.
8-10 degrees for men
~15 degrees for women
Angle between the quadriceps muscles and the patella tendon.
What is the “Femoral Angle”?
125-135 degrees.
The intersection between the proximal femoral shaft axis and the femoral neck axis.
What is “Hip Anteversion”?
15 degrees forward from shaft of femur.
Femoral neck rotates forward/leans forward with respect to the rest of the femur.
What is “Hip Retroversion”?
Less than anteversion; less than 10 degrees
Less than 15 degrees backward from shaft of femur.
Femur twists backward relative to the knee/The hip joint rotates abnormally backward relative to the knee
What is “genu varus”?
A condition in which the knees stay apart even when standing with feet and ankles together, also known as bowlegs.
What is “genu valgus”?
A condition in which the knees angle in and touch each other when the legs are straightened. Commonly called knock-knee
What is “genu recurvatum”?
A deformity in the knee joint, so that the knee bends backwards.
