Hip joint Flashcards
factors which stabilise the joint
upshaped acetabulum (more contact area for a better connection)
muscles around the joint (prevent hyperextension)
ligaments (iliofemoral, pubofemoral, ischiofemoral)
the fibrous capsule(during extreme movement twists and pulls together to limit movement)
the acetabular labrum(increases articular contact area fro better connection)
the ligament teres (accessory ligament in the head of the femur)
what are the ligaments found in the hip joint
iliofemoral, ischiofemorale and pubofemoral. all hold ball to socket.
iliofemorale ligament
very strong, prevents hyperextension, is y shaped and is found on the anterior
ischiofemoral ligament
is posterior and prevents over rotation. found on the anterior
pubofemoral ligament
prevents over abduction and hperextentsion. is found on the posterior
describe the blood supply of the femur
supplied by deep femoral arteries that branch into medial and lateral circumflex arteries + also have minor source at the head from the branch of obututor artery. however, this is only really a proper supply in children
what happens when the superior gluteal nerve is damaged
weakend abdication of lower limb, and seen via tandelemburg sign where hip drops on oppposite side to injury
how is the superior gluteal nerve injured
surgery. injections, fracture, dislocation et.c
