Hip Joint Flashcards
Iliofemoral ligament distal attachment
both bands to intertrochanteric line of femur
Iliofemoral Ligament proximal attachment
AIIS & acetabulum
What movement does Iliofemoral ligament check?
Checks extension and external rotation of the hip
Pubofemoral ligament proximal attachment
obturator crest of pubic bone
Pubofemoral distal attachment
blends with fibrous (external) layer of the capsule and medial aspect of iliofemoral ligament
What movement does pubofemoral ligament check?
Checks abduction and extension of the hip 24 M
Ischiofemoral ligament proximal attchment
ischial part of acetabular rim
Ischiofemoral distal attachment
spirals superolaterally to femoral neck, medial to greater trochanter
What movement does ischiofemoral check?
Checks internal (medial) rotation and extension
What activities are likely to irritate the bursa overlying the greater trochanter? The ischial tuberosity?
Diffuse deep pain in the lateral thigh region may be caused by trochanteric bursitis. Stair climbing may cause this. Pain may radiate along the iliotibial tract.
Ischial bursitis results from excessive friction between the ischial bursae and ischial tuberosities from activities such as cycling
Where is the sciatic nerve located in hip region?
located midway between the ischial tuberosity and the greater trochanter of the femur
What nerves and vessels exit the pelvis from the greater sciatic foramen and enter through the lesser sciatic foramen
pudendal nerve, internal pudendal artery, or nerve to obterator internus
What ligament separates the greater and lesser sciatic notches?
Sacrospinous
What divides the greater sciatic foramen into superior and inferior portions?
Piriformis muscle
