hip bones Flashcards
where is the ASIS
it is found at the anterior aspect of the ilium
where is the PSIS
it is found at the posterior aspect of the ilium and at the posterior of the iliac crest
where is the iliac crest
it is the most superior edge of the ilium
describe where the pubic tubercle is
it is the most anterior, medial and superior part of the pubis
describe the position of the ischium
it is the most inferior and posterior part of the pelvic girdle; it is the part that you sit on
describe what the fovea is and where it is found.
the fovea is found on the head of the femur where the ligament of the head of the femur attaches (looks like a little dimple)
describe where the acetabulum is and what the role of the C-shaped cartilage is
the acetabulum is the socket part of the joint and is made up of all 3 bones in the hip girdle . the C-shaped cartilage allows a better fit and makes the head of the femur fit in the socket better.
where is the greater tracanta found
the large knob on the anterior superior lateral aspect of the femur (the knob on the outside of the femur)
where is the lesser tracanta found
the small knob on the anterior superior medial aspect of the femur (the knob on the inside of the femur
where is the adductor tubercle found
it is the medial knob on the inferior medial aspect of the femur (the knob on the inside of the knee)
what are the 3 main differences between male and female pelvises
1 - men have a higher iliac crest
2 - men have a more heart shaped pelvic inlet whereas women have a more circular inlet
3 - men have a more acute angle of inferior pubic ramus
