Hip and Pelvis Flashcards
Where is Shenton’s hip line?
medial edge of femur arching to superior ramus of pubis
position of hip during AP hip and proximal femur view
slight IR
What structures are best seen in lateral frog-leg view?
- femoral head and neck
- greater and lesser trochanters
What structures are best viewed during AP hip and proximal femur view?
Positioning of head in acetabulum
- Shenton’s line
- Iliofemoral line
- Femoral neck angle
What is cross-over sign?
When there is posterior and anterior acetabular rim border intersection
- retroversion (FAI)
what is alpha angle? What is normal?
angle midline through femoral neck and where neck meets femoral head w/ line through femoral head
- normal is ~42 deg
During a cam lesion, is there an increased or decreased alpha angle?
increased
During a pincer lesion, is there an increased or decreased alpha angle?
no change in alpha angle because the acetabulum impedes or jets out
acute hip pain suspected fx - initial imaging of acute hip pain, fall or minor trauma, suspect fx
- radiography hip
- radiography pelvis
- radiography hip and pelvis
acute hip pain - suspected fx - next imaging, acute hip pain, fall or minor trauma, negative radiographs, suspected fx
- MRI pelvis and hip
- CT pelvis and hip
chronic hip pain - initial imaging
- radiography hip
- radiography pelvis
chronic hip pain - next imaging study, suspect noninfectious extra-articular abnormality, such as tendonitis or bursitis, radiographs negative or nondiagnostic
- US hip
- MRI hip
chronic hip pain - next imaging study, suspect impingement or dysplasia, radiographs negative or nondiagnostic
- MR arthrography hip
- MRI hip
chronic hip pain - next imaging study, chronic hip pain W/ LBP or knee pathology or pain, radiographs demonstrate hip osteoarthritis, want to quantify amount of pain related to the hip
image-guided anesthetic
imaging after THA - asymptomatic
x-ray
