What is significant about the illiopsoas?

A

-it is the only hip flexor that flexes the hip past 90*
-most important hip flexor
-Proximal actions:
•Anterior pelvic tilt
•Lumbar flexion
•In standing: creates extension / lumbar lordosis as head is kept over COG
•Weak external rotation

A

cross 2 joints- flexes hip and extends knee

  • increased liklyhood of active insufficiency
  • Strongest action as a hip flexor when knee is flexed
