Hip Flashcards
When is the iliofemoral ligament maximally stretched?
extension and full external rotation
Where does the iliofemoral ligament run from
AIIS to intertrochanter line
Where does the ischiofemoral ligament run from?
ischium to greater trochanter
Where does the pubofemoral ligament run?
anterior/inferior rim of acetabulum to superior pubic ramus
When does the pubofemoral get taut?
extension and abduction
When does the ischiofemoral get taut?
Superficial fibers: extension and IR
Superior: adduction
Inferior: taut in felxion
Closed Packed position of the hip
Extension, IR, Abduction
Hip position of maximal congruency
90 deg hip flexion, moderate ER, abduction
Full hip flexion, knees bent and straight?
knees bent: 120
knee straight: 80
(hamstrings stop you)
What limits hip abduction?
40 degrees due to tension in the pubofemoral ligament and adductor and hamstrings
What limits adduction?
25 degrees beyond neutral limited by hip abductor muscles, contralateral limb and superficial fibers ischiofemoral ligament and ITB
How much internal rotation is there at the hip?
35 degrees, limited by piriformis and parts of ischiofemoral ligament
How much ER is there at the hip?
45 degrees, limited by TFL and lateral fibers of the iliofemoral ligament
Ipsi-directional Lumbopelvic Rhythm
pelvis and spine rotate in same direction
Contradirectional lumbopelvic rhythm
pelvis rotates one direction while lumbar spine rotates the opposite direction
Primary Hip Flexors
iliopsoas, sartorius, TFL, rectus femoris, pectineus, and adductor longus
Secondary hip flexors
adductor brevis, gracilis, anterior fibers of gluteus medius
Primary hip adductors
pectineus, adductor longus, brevis, magnus and gracilis
Secondary hip adductors
biceps femoris LH, gluteus max inferior fibers, quadratus femoris
Internal Rotators
All Secondary
anterior fibers glut minimus, glut medius, TFL, Adductor longus, adductor brevis, pectineus, semitendinosis, semimembranosis
Primary Hip Extensors
gluteus maximus, hamstrings, posterior head of adductor magnus
Secondary Hip Extensors
posterior fibers of gluteus medius, and adductors with hip flexed more than 50 degrees
Posterior Pelvic tilt force couple
hip extensors (glut max, hamstrings) and abdominals (rectus abdominis and external oblique muscle )
anterior pelvic tilt force couple
hip flexors, back extensors
