Hip Flashcards
Ligaments
- Iliofemoral (strongest)
– prevents excessive extension and plays a significant role in stabilizing and maintaining upright posture at hip, while limiting anterior translation - ischiofemoral (weakest)
– helps stabilize the hip in extension - pubofemoral
- -prevents excessive abduction of femur and limits extension
Ranges of motion and muscles according to movement
Flexion (110-120)- Psoas major, iliacus (assisted by: pectineus, rec fem, sartorius, adductors)
Extension (10-15)- Glut max, hamstrings
Adduction (30)- Adductor longus, brevis and magnus (assited by: pectineus and gracilis)
Abduction (30-50)- glut med and min (assisted by: TFL and sartorius)
Internal rotation (30-40)- TFL, glut med and min (assisted by: gracilis)
External rotation (40-60)- obturator internus and externus, gamellus superior and inferior, quadrates femoris (assisted by: piriformis, glut max and sartorius)
Any reduction in internal rotation can be either tight int rotators (glut med and max, TFL)- 1st option
2nd option- tight external rotators
this can work with other areas of the body as well
