What is Atman?
The Hinduism name for a Soul that moves on during reincarnation.
What is Ahimsa
The Hindu practice of non-violence (physical, mental, emotional), living a peaceful life.
What is Samsara?
The cycle of life and death and being reincarnation in a loop.
What is Moksha?
The process of escaping samsara and being brought to enlightenment / perfection where a Hindu is reunited with Brahman.
What is Reincarnation?
The process of being reborn after death, with your placement in society based on your karma and dharma in your previous life.
What is Brahman?
The umbrella term for the 3 main gods, brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva.
What is Dharma?
It literally means duty, but it includes two different types, Vishesha dharma and Sadharana dharma. Vishesha dharma is about completing tasks per your caste, and Sadharana dharma is about being a universal good person.
What are Deities?
It is another word for Gods, or divine beings.
What is Karma
Karma is a measure of how good your actions were in your life and it determines what you shall be reincarnated as, to reward or give consequences for your actions in your previous life.
What is a Cyclical Worldview?
It is the worldview used by Hindus which uses the principle of reincarnation after death in a cycle called samsara.
What is The Caste System?
The social hierarchy system Hindu’s use that characterizes people into their societal roles.
What is Shruti Text? Give an example.
Shruti text is heard from Gods, and it includes the Vedas and Upanishads, it holds more authority that the smriti texts.
What is Smriti Text? Give an example.
Smriti text is the remembered text as it is written down, it includes the epics (poems) and the Bhagavad Gita, it has less authority than the shruti text but the Bhagavad Gita is the foundation text of Hinduism.
