Describe The Story Of Diwali
It celebrates the famous story of Rama and Sita defeating the evil ten-headed demon king Ravana. It is a reminder of the victory of good over evil.

Before and during the festival, Hindus often clean their home, get their finances in order, join in fireworks displays and light diva lamps. Feasting and generosity are common. Hindus often worship Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, in the hope of a prosperous new year. They leave their homes open in order to welcome wealth into their homes.

Holi remembers the story of Prince Prahlad, who was a Vishnu devotee, and his victory over the demon girl Holika

Celebrated through throwing paint which symbolises forgetting differences and treating and forgiving everyone equally
Why is Navarati celebrated
Hindus tell the story of Durga’s nine-day battle and victory over the demon Mahishasura. The goddess is worshipped for her power.

Worshipping the goddesses in the nine days and fasting. Also includes chanting of hindu scriptures.
Why is mahashivarati celebrated
Dedicated to shiva. In Hinduism, each new moon is dedicated to Shiva, but Mahashivratri is especially important. This is because it remembers the story of Shiva dancing his cosmic dance, beating out the rhythm of time. The figure of Shiva Nataraja, the Lord of the Dance, is connected to this story.

It is celebrated during the night and day that come just before the new moon.
Why is Ganesh Chaturthi celebrated
Ganesha is known as the ‘remover of obstacles’ and devotees pray to him for prosperity and wisdom.

During Ganesh Chaturthi, images of Ganesha are placed on raised platforms in homes or in elaborately decorated outdoor tents. Worship includes 16 ways of paying tribute. Murtis being carried in procession to rivers nearby, accompanied by drumming, singing and chanting
Why is Raksha Bandhan celebrated
Raksha Bandhan is a celebration of brotherly and sisterly affection. It remembers an ancient story where Lakshmi tied a rakhi to King Bali’s arm in return for letting her husband, Vishnu, return home.
How is Raksha Bandhan celebrated
In Hindu practice, sisters replicate Lakshmi’s gesture by giving their brothers a rakhi bracelet to wear. The festival teaches Hindus to be generous.
